I’m Kevin, an artist and writer from Chicago currently living in New York’s Hudson Valley. My mission is to create work that connects me to something larger in nature or the universe, or something small like a feeling or a memory. Through my work I hope to share this connection with others. I’m a big believer in listening to my intuition and following the subtle clues laid forth by the world.
My visual artwork has been shown at the Shames JCC; Black Cow Coffee Co.; RiverArts Open Studio; and Beacon Open Studios at the Yard.
I am the author of the story collection All Must Go (2020) as well as the chapbooks You Can't Sell This (2021 with Lauren Zallo), From Your Jerry (2019), and I've Done Worse (2017).
In 2020, I won George Mason University’s Phoebe Journal Prize for Fiction. I’m the former host of the Test Literary Series at the Whistler (best bar in Chicago), Editor in Chief of Funny Looking Dog Quarterly, co-founder of Vinyl on Tap, and creator of LeFawn Magazine. I’ve written for distinguished publications such as Zone Coverage, Chicago Health Magazine, The Rumpus, and Hop Culture Magazine. My fiction, essay, and poetry, has been published in magazines such as Denver Quarterly, Mooncity Review, Smokelong Quarterly, BULL, Sobotka Literary Magazine, and Monkey Bicycle.
My creative writing often explores working class life, as my day job is in landscaping and handyman work. My visual art encompasses drawing, collage, and acrylic and oil paint. I typically flip between natural subjects such as landscapes and birds and abstract images devised from automatic drawing or images that reach me during meditation. I don’t confine myself to one style and like to move between the real and surreal depending on what inspires me at a particular moment in time.
Here’s an interview I did with Fifteen Questions.
If you’re looking for are interested in an art commission or just want to talk about art or writing, reach out. I’d love to connect. Until then,
-Kevin
